Sockeyes pummel Kodiaks, take game one

Aldergrove falls 8-2 as Pacific Junior Hockey League championship series opens

For the third straight playoff series, the Aldergrove Kodiaks have dropped game one.

The Richmond Sockeyes scored a decisive 8-2 victory on March 20 in game one of the Pacific Junior Hockey League's championship series at the Aldergrove Arena.

The Sockeyes scored twice in the opening period and were up 3-0 in the second period when Stefan Gonzales finally got the Kodiaks on the board.

But any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed as Richmond struck for three goals in the final 6:02 of the period to take a 6-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Scott McHaffie had the other Kodiaks goal in the third period before Rudi Thorsteinson and Danton Heinen rounded out the scoring for Richmond.

Heinen, and another 91原创 product, Daniell Lange, had big games for the Sockeyes.

Lange scored twice while Heinen had a goal and two helpers.

Thorsteinson also scored twice in the win, while Adam Nishi, Liam Lawson and Austin Adamason had the other Sockeye tallies.

Richmond outshot Aldergrove 54-42 with Kootenay Alder making 40 saves in the victory.

Mark Menicucci stopped 29 of the 24 shots he faced while Cole MacInnes made 17 saves on 20 shots.

Game two of the series goes March 21 at the Richmond Arena with the series shifting back to Aldergrove Arena on March 24 for game three. Game four will be in Richmond on March 26.
