VIDEO: Resurgent Vancouver FC prepares to host Halifx

'I think the confidence is just going to keep growing' coach says

After four games that included two draws and two wins, a more confident Vancouver FC was working out during a team training session at Willoughby Park on Wednesday morning to prepare for their next match.

Vancouver's head coach, Afshin Ghotbi was a keen-eyed presence as players were put through their paces.

The Eagles are going into Saturday's game against Halifax with momentum, after recording their first two wins of the season, a 3-1 victory over a nine-man Valour FC in Winnipeg and a 4-2 win over rivals Pacific FC 4-2 on penalties (1-1 in regular time) in the preliminary round of the 2025 Canadian Championship.

Their back-to-back wins followed two draws, against Cavalry and Pacific.

Ghotbi was sounding positive immediately after their second win.

"This has taken a long time to build, to be honest, but I feel that with the addition of some of the players that have come into the team with leadership qualities and a winning mentality, along with the players that have been with us from the beginning, like Callum (Irving), we've seen a tremendous amount of maturity and growth in the group," Ghotbi remarked.

"I think those hard times have really helped them understand how joyful it is when you triumph and when you start winning after such hardship. In our last four games, we've been able to put four good performances together, and I think the confidence is just going to keep growing."

On Saturday, May 17, number two-ranked Halifax Wanderers will pay a visit to the Willoughby Community Park stadium at 91Ô´´ Events Centre to play number-six-ranked VFC. The game starts at 5 p.m.
