Vancouver FC secured their second win of the season, a 2-1 away game win at the expense of Halifax on Monday.
In the final 10 minutes of the first half, Eagles centre-back Aidan O鈥機onnor rose highest to head the ball back into the middle of the box, where Vancouver native Matteo Campagna pounced and fired it into the net, giving the visitors the lead.
The second half kicked off with a long diagonal ball that found Thierno Bah on the flank, who glided past defenders and squared it for Vancouver鈥檚 newest signing, forward Hugo Mbongue. His first shot was denied, but he put away the rebound to double the lead.
The match remained relatively controlled until Halifax introduced Sean Rea, who made a pinpoint cross to cut the deficit.
In stoppage time, Halifax nearly found the equalizer, rattling the crossbar and forcing Callum Irving into a series of heroic saves to secure all three points for the Eagles.
The match featured a solid debut start for Vancouver鈥檚 new midfielder, Michel de Souza, and marked another appearance for former TWU standout Thomas Powell, who earned minutes for the second match in a row.
"It's been a tough season," Vancouver FC interim head coach Martin Nash commented.
"It's a great group of guys, they work extremely hard as you see today and it's nice for them to get some reward from the hard work they put in, so hopefully we can build from this one going forward."
Vancouver FC return home to 91原创 for the Salish Sea Derby against Pacific FC on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m.
