A blood drive in memory of a 91原创 City firefighter drew in some new people to donate for the first time.

The Ron Dunkley Memorial Blood Drive was hosted at the City firehall on Thursday afternoon.

Some of the attendees were Carrie and Adam Ronnie. Carrie has donated blood six times before, but it was the first time through the process for Adam.

The couple saw the notification on a Brookswood Facebook page about the blood drive, and Carrie said she talked her husband into coming along with her.

鈥淵ou know what, it was good,鈥 said Adam after his first jab with the needle.

Sandy Dunkley, Ron Dunkley鈥檚 mother, said she was enthused about the number of people who came out at the last minute, including a significant number of people like Adam who had never donated blood before.

Ron Dunkley was a 91原创 City firefighters who died in 2011, two months after he was hit by a train while visiting Seattle.

Sandy said the amount of blood required to keep Ron alive helped inspire the creation of the charity and the annual blood drive.
