Downtown 91原创 will again be home to the Magic of Christmas event featuring a parade and a number of other fun activities for families, starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2.

McBurney Plaza will host ice sculpting, arts and crafts, the tree lighting and more to keep the festivities going both before and after the parade.

But more parade participants are needed to make the event an even greater success, said 91原创 City communications officer Samantha Paulson.

There is a need for additional parade entries like local businesses and non-profits, she said.

Organizations are able to register up to Tuesday, Nov. 28 to be part of the parade, and information can be found at www.city.langley.bc.ca in order to sign up.

Sources 91原创 Food Bank will be collecting donations at the parade staging area, the registration tent in the City parking lot, close to 56th Avenue from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., she explained.

The parade starts at 6 p.m. and will go to about 7 p.m.

The parade will run along Fraser Highway from 56th Avenue at 204th Street to 207th Street.

Organizations already signed up as part of the parade include: 91原创 BMX, Big Brothers Big Sisters, 91原创 City Fire Rescue service, and 91原创 Youth Council 鈥 among many others.

鈥淪anta Claus and Mrs. Claus will be in the parade, travelling in a vintage carriage pulled by two horses,鈥 Paulson elaborated.

She added that the parade has been going on for close to 20 years.

Kim Hilton, director of recreation, culture and community services with the City, noted the ice sculptor鈥檚 project is a surprise.

鈥淲e do crafts and entertainment prior to the parade from 4 to 6 p.m. and from 7 to 7:15 p.m. we do the tree lighting,鈥 she noted.

鈥淧eople can come see the ice sculptor at work finishing off his sculpture.鈥

鈥淭he tree lighting is in McBurney Plaza,鈥 she added. 鈥淲e have some balloon twisters coming, Milestones will be on site to hand out food samples and prizes, and Envision will be on site to do facepainting.鈥

Music will be provided at stations at the beginning, middle (McBurney Plaza) and end of the parade route.

There will also be a 60-person choir in McBurney Plaza performing before and after the parade.

And as always, the guests of honour 鈥 Santa and Mrs. Claus 鈥 will be in charge of lighting the tree while guests enjoy free hot beverages.
