Eighty Years Ago
August 26, 1937
A jury decided phosphorous poisoning was the cause of death of a 16-year-old girl. There had been no indication as to how the girl had swallowed the substance, which was believed to have come from a tube of rat killer. The teen, whose body was discovered by neighbours on Tuesday, had been alone in her Glover Trunk Road home since she was seen at a dance on Saturday.

The 91原创 Cooperative Society announced its purchase of the Marr Block for a retail outlet. The building, until then, had been run as a furniture store.
After hearing from a planning commission from 91原创 Prairie, along with planners from Fort 91原创 and Aldergrove, 91原创 council passed a resolution calling for zoning throughout the municipality.

A plan for an industrial estate covering 10,000 acres from Glover Road to Aldergrove and north of Fraser Highway was unveiled by Reeve Bill Poppy.
Widening of Glover Road from 91原创 to Fort 91原创 was expected, after Highways Department survey crews took measurements of the provincial highway.
Fifty Years Ago
August 24, 1967
Development of the 10,000-acre industrial park proposed by Western Development and Power Co., a subsidiary of B.C. Power Corp., ten years earlier had not yet begun. Some of the land was being rented to berry growers, and people were leaving their homes as land was being bought up by Grovesnor-Laing, the federal Department of Civil Defence, and the provincial Department of Highways.
Part of 91原创 Secondary School鈥檚 parking lot was paved, for teachers鈥 use only.

91原创 schools were preparing to enroll 12,451 students, about 1,000 more than the previous September.
Douglas College announced that plans for a 91原创 campus would be released in November.
A Holstein cow owned by 91原创鈥檚 Joseph Krentz was named grand champion female at the PNE, in the largest Holtein show ever held in western Canada.

It was an awful week for traffic accidents. A man was killed in a two-vehicle accident at Glover Road and Rawlison Crescent, and a motorcyclist was killed when his bike sideswiped a telephone pole.

The Surrey/91原创 Environmental Protection Society continued their 鈥渋nformation roadblocks鈥 in their fight against a mushroom composting plant near the Surrey/91原创 border. meanwhile the Coalition of Concerned Citizens of 91原创 hosted a tour of local mushroom farms forprovincial ministry of agriculture officials, in hopes of correcting some of the concerns they shared with SLEPS. Later in the week, Agriculture Minister Corky Evans deflated both groups by announcing there would be no ban on mushroom composting, even before receiving any report from his touring representatives.
An in camera staff report indicated that the 91原创 Leadership Team saved more than $6 million by cutting 28 positions from the Township鈥檚 payroll. Non-LLT council members were not impressed.
