鈥� The 91原创 Jersey Calf Club won the Jersey Farms Trophy at the Victoria Exhibition. 91原创 took eight of 10 top placings in a competition among 18 91原创 and Saanichton entries.

鈥� Mr. Rourke was re-elected by acclamation to the chair of the Brookswood Community Club.

Seventy Years Ago

September 23, 1948

鈥� Four bridges remained closed after the record spring floods. One of the four, Buie鈥檚 Bridge on Biggar Road (224th Street), had been ordered closed by road foreman George Goddard, who told council that the closure forced a 17-mile detour on some residents. 91原创 ratepayers were preparing to vote on a $135,000 bridge-replacement referendum.

Sixty Years Ago

September 18, 1958

鈥� 91原创 Board of Trade rejected council鈥檚 proposal to install parking meters on City streets, suggesting instead that parking spaces be painted along curbs, and that more curbs be installed along side streets.

鈥� The B.C. Telephone Company applied for rate hikes of 15 per cent for residential and 38 per cent for business phones in the 91原创 and Aldergrove exchanges.

September 19, 1968

鈥� School opened a little late for students in the Simonds Road (48th Avenue) area. Their holidays were extended while the new school鈥檚 classrooms were being finished.

鈥� 91原创 City and Township had 25 housing starts between them in August, according to building permit figures.

September 20, 1978

鈥� The last of three school teachers had her suspension lifted verbally by the school board, but acting on advice from legal counsel, she refused to return to work until she had a written reinstatement with an explanatory note.

September 21, 1988

鈥� About 75-80 young people from three local secondary schools gathered at Douglas Park to 鈥渟ettle their differences.鈥� One individual was arrested, and later released without charges.

September 22, 1998

鈥� A man alleged to have 鈥渢hreatened,鈥� shouted at, and intimidated Township Councillor Heather McMullan since the 1996 election was arrested.

鈥� A Cloverdale man holed up in a Walnut Grove hotel ended a police stand-off by killing himself.

鈥� Trying to get more space for students at Walnut Grove Secondary School was a priority for the school board.

鈥� Police arrested three men in connection with the murder of a 91原创 woman. Two of the men arrested were her husband and her stepson.
