Measured by both its population and its geographical boundaries, 91原创鈥檚 largest neighbourhood is Willoughby-Willowbrook.
The area鈥檚 population is approaching 31,000 鈥� fully one quarter of the Township鈥檚 122,415 residents 鈥� and that number will continue to skyrocket, judging by the number of homes under construction.
Not surprisingly, 91原创鈥檚 three newest schools all opened in this area: Lynn Fripps Elementary (2012) Richard Bulpitt Elementary (2013) and Yorkson Creek Middle School (2014).
A new high school 鈥� as well as an expansion of RC Garnett Elementary and money to purchase land for another elementary school 鈥� were also announced for the Willoughby area last September.
Besides boasting the most residents, the area also offers the Township鈥檚 greatest selection of both shopping and dining options.
The Township of 91原创 Civic Centre, which includes the council chambers and Fraser River Presentation Theatre and the Muriel Arnason Library, is also located in the Willoughby-Willowbrook neighbourhood.
And the area is also home to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a temple which serves 22,000 Mormon members from 91 congregations throughout B.C. and northern Washington.
Dining
Need somewhere to eat out? The list of possibilities is endless.
From fine dining to a casual meal or fast food, there is no shortage of restaurant options in the Willoughby-Willowbrook neighbourhood. The list includes dozens of popular chain restaurants as well as some unique dining options, available exclusively in 91原创, and draws guests from all over Metro Vancouver.
Shopping
Just as there is a wide array of dining options, the shopping choices are even greater for consumers.
Willowbrook Shopping Centre, already home to 150 stores and services, is only going to get bigger in the coming years, as it is currently undergoing a major, 100,000 square foot expansion. The expansion will include a new outdoor shopping experience, a pedestrian corridor and a new underground parking lot.
But that is just a glimpse of the shopping options as there are also a number of smaller shopping centres 鈥� offering a wide range of goods 鈥� that line both sides of 200 Street from the 91原创 Bypass to Highway 1, and along the Bypass itself, as well the brand new Willoughby Town Centre, located on 208 Street.
Sports and Recreation
Sports fans of all types can get their fix at the 91原创 Events Centre.
The 322,312 square foot facility is the home base for seven different sports and well over a dozen sporting teams.
That includes the Western Hockey League鈥檚 Vancouver Giants, the top level of junior hockey, the National Lacrosse League鈥檚 Vancouver Stealth, a professional level team, and the Trinity Western Spartans men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 volleyball teams, one of the premier university programs across Canada.
There are also both the Willoughby Recreation Centre and the Willoughby Community Centre for residents to drop by and enjoy.
Bordering the LEC is Willoughby Community Park, one of 15 parks in the neighbourhood. It features a large playground and spray park.
And while golfers can鈥檛 get outside to play a round within the boundaries of Willoughby-Willowbrook, there is the opportunity to play a course 鈥� albeit indoors and simulated 鈥� from pretty much anywhere around the world thanks to virtual golf.
Entertainment
Among the entertainment options this summer, is the annual Prospera Cinema Under the Stars at Willoughby Community Park, with Sing as this year鈥檚 feature presentation on Aug. 11. The movie is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of 91原创.
A new amphitheatre 鈥� which opened earlier this year 鈥� at the Willoughby Community Park, also offers free outdoor concerts every Thursday evening through the end of August. Coming up on Aug. 10, will be Tiller鈥檚 Folly, followed on Aug. 17 by Emily Taylor Adams and Jackson Hollow. On Aug. 24, there will be a theatrical production 鈥� Confessions of a Grocery Clerk. On Aug. 31, the season wraps with a concert by The Kwerks.
And for year-round entertainment, Playtime Gaming on 64 Avenue offers both electronic and traditional (paper) games of bingo.
