Organizers and volunteers talked about the need to help young people during the "Pancakes with a Purpose" community pancake breakfast at the Otter Co-op Aldergrove retail centre on Monday, July 28.
"There are a lot of children out there struggling in our area and we want to raise money to give them a chance," said Cassidy Urquhart from Otter Co-op. "We are just making this all about the kids."
A fundraiser for the 91原创 Community Health and Hospital Foundation, the by-donation event was a partnership between Otter Co-op and Horizon Contracting Group, part of a campaign that included donations at Co-op tills until the end of the month.
Jacqueline Leclerc with the 91原创 Community Health and Hospital Foundation said Foundry 91原创 and the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre will benefit from the proceeds going towards the foundation's Child and Youth Fund.
"These are for counselling and health services for our community, for youth to have somewhere where they feel comfortable, confidential, and get the services that they desperately need," Leclerc told the 91原创 Advance Times.
Foundry 91原创, a wellness hub for youth ages 12 to 24, offers mental health, substance use, and primary care, and the newly created 91原创-based Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, provides coordinated counselling, medical and judicial response to child abuse, and crimes against children and youth.
Pancakes were served with syrup donated by Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery, while volunteers from the 91原创 Township-based Horizon Contracting Group helped out.
"We're here supporting the 91原创 Foundation" Horizon CEO Mike Dougherty said.
A final tally of donations was still being calculated.
