Four men have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 19-year-old Abbotsford man who was found severely injured in Surrey in January.
Charged with first-degree murder and forcible confinement are Jaskaran Singh, 20, of Surrey; Bipanpreet Singh, 22, of Surrey; Ravdeep Gill, 21, of Winnipeg; and Harmandeep Gill, 26, of Brampton, Ont., the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced in a press release Friday, Aug. 1.
Inderpreet Khosa, 19, of Abbotsford has also been charged with forcible confinement.
The charges stem from a Jan. 27 incident when the after witnesses reported seeing a man being assaulted and taken away in a vehicle.
About three hours later, the 19-year-old victim was found in the Crescent Beach area of Surrey with what were described as "severe injuries." He died in hospital on Feb. 1.
IHIT says that, based on initial investigative steps, the death was believed to be a "targeted incident" but was not believed to be related to the B.C. gang conflict.
"Over the past six months, IHIT has been working in close partnership with AbbyPD, RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit, Surrey Police Service, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service, BC Coroners Service, the Winnipeg Police Service and Manitoba RCMP Division Major Crime Unit to advance this investigation," said the release from Const. Sukhi Dhesi, media relations officer for IHIT.
