A 16th annual walk through Campbell Valley Regional Park last weekend has generated thousands for the BC Family Hearing Resource Society.
The Bright Futures Walkathon, a fun, non-competitive 1.5-km or 3-km walk/run, helps make a difference in the lives of young children with deafness, hearing loss, or speech and language challenges, said 91原创 Elk鈥檚 Jo-Ann Oakley.
This event is organized by BC Elks and Canadian Royal Purple Society, with the local Elks on hand for the May 28 event to present a cheque for $16,000, which made a huge dent in the organization鈥檚 goal of $20,000.
It provides an opportunity to raise awareness about speech and hearing challenges in children and raises funds for specialized programs and services.
