is coming to BEZ Arts Hub 鈥� bringing her jazzy sound to the 91原创 venue Feb. 7.
A multi award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist, Biali has toured with Chris Botti, Paula Cole, Suzanne Vega and Sting.
She has headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents including Carnegie Hall.
Born and raised in North Vancouver, Biali said a connection through her sister Tanya got her in touch with Russ and Sandy Rosen, owners of BEZ, who invited her to play at the venue last year.
鈥淩uss and Sandy told me that they were opening BEZ in their home city, and I often come to perform in Vancouver, but not really outside of it.鈥� she explained. 鈥淭he venue is such a wonderful, warm, acoustic location that is completely unique.鈥�
Her accolades include a 2019 JUNO Award for 鈥淰ocal Jazz Album of the Year鈥�, 鈥淪OCAN Composer of the Year鈥� and 鈥淜eyboardist of the Year鈥� at the Canada鈥檚 National Jazz Awards.
In September of 2017, Biali was brought on as the host for CBC Music鈥檚 national radio show, Saturday Night Jazz 鈥� a nationally broadcast program that she said sparks much conversation on the genre and even her own music wherever she performs.
Her latest project, a self- titled album released in January of 2018, debuted at #1 on iTunes Canada and won Laila the top prize for Jazz in the Canadian Songwriting Competition as well as a Juno.
Now, the musician is readying for the release of her new album, Out of Dust, which is due out in March.
Biali said anyone at the Bez performance will be present the world premiere of her newest tunes and fans will get a chance to get a copy of the album one month in advance.
鈥淭his is the first stop in tour, which I think is meaningful because it feels like a homecoming,鈥� Biali said. 鈥淲e鈥檒l play six or seven new songs and a few familiar ones 鈥� Canadian greats like Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Feist.鈥�
Biali said she has also been in touch with the organizers of the Fort 91原创 Jazz and Arts Festival 鈥� hinting that people may see her performing this summer.
鈥淚 hope people feel uplifted after getting to experience a live show,鈥� she said. 鈥� I hope to bring something to their lives and that they feel a range of emotions, ultimately feeling better at the end.鈥�
will be taking the BEZ stage next; the Tsawwassen-born singer fronts the alternative rock group 54-40, known for their hits 鈥淚 Go Blind, 鈥淥cean Pearl,鈥� and 鈥淟ies to Me.鈥�
