Surrey Little Theatre is holding auditions this week for their spring production of the Homechild.

The story of one family provides both humour and drama in Homechild, the new show being presented by Surrey Little Theatre.

Before the spring run comes the auditions, which are Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. and Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.

There are roles for three men (a farmer, son and neighbour), four women (the farmer鈥檚 wife and his sister, his daughter), and the neighbour鈥檚 mother who are all between the ages of 45 to 74. The audition also has a role for one girl eight to 10 years old.

Auditions are at Surrey Little Theatre, 7027 184th St., and the performers must be available for rehearsal and the shows.

Homechild will be performed from April 20 to May 20. Because this play will be entered into the Fraser Valley Zone Festival, actors must be available to perform at the Festival in White Rock during the week of May 21 to 27, and if the play wins the Zone Festival, the actors will go on to perform at the Mainstage Festival in Vernon the week of July 1 to July 8.

Homechild was written by Canadian playwright, Joan McLeod, and will be directed by award-winning director/designer June Ainsworth and Jacq Ainsworth.

Homechild is a humorous and poignant play about family secrets, and about the many forms of love, longing and aspiration. It takes a piece of history from a dark corner of our country鈥檚 past and dramatizes its tragic impact through the generations of one family. For more information www.surreylittletheatre.com or email juneainsworth1@gmail.com.

Refugee reflection

Trinity Western University is hosting a free Night of Stories, Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. delving into the topic of refugees.

The headline speaker at the event is refugee advocate Tima Kurdi, who is known for speaking out on the plight of Syrian refugees after the death of her nephew, Alan Kurdi, made headlines around the world.

Attendees will also hear from three 91原创-area youth who arrived in Canada as refugees.

The young adults will be sharing their stories of being refugees, and Kurdi will present a call to action.

This event is open to the community and anyone is invited to attend, said Kelly Arbeau, assistant professor in the psychology department at TWU, who is chair of the TWU refugee response and initiative.
