The 91原创 Community Music School season finale of the Rose Gellert Concert Hall series will deliver dazzling, original performances of the great masterpieces: Mussorgsky鈥檚 Pictures from an Exhibition, Gershwin鈥檚 An American in Paris and Bernstein鈥檚 West Side Story.
Performed by the Bergmann Piano Duo (Marcel and Elizabeth Bergmann) and accompanied by Vancouver Symphony Orchestra principal percussionist, Vern Griffiths, and VSO principal timpanist, Aaron MacDonald, this piano-percussion ensemble will not only pack a punch, but also promises to pack them into Rose Gellert Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening, May 22.
Audiences are invited to spend an evening 鈥渇eeling the pictures鈥� of these three distinct periods in time as they are transported back to the romantic period and experience the flavor of Russian history and folklore with Modest Mussorgsky鈥檚 Pictures from an Exhibition.
鈥淔rom Mussorgsky鈥檚 visionary and unique masterpiece, 鈥楶ictures from an Exhibition鈥� to Gershwin鈥檚 light-hearted and poetic 鈥楢merican in Paris鈥� to selections of Bernstein鈥檚 seminal musical 鈥榃est Side Story鈥�, we are presenting an array of familiar classics from a new and fresh perspective,鈥� said Elizabeth Bergmann.
This particular performance will be especially vibrant, combining piano with percussion.
鈥淲e have always enjoyed collaborating with percussionists and are very excited about the upcoming program that features some of the most energetic and powerful music in this two piano and percussion rendition,鈥� she said.
鈥淭his is going to be a stunning performance,鈥� said LCMS principal Susan Magnusson.
