It鈥檚 been a busy week for the Vancouver Giants.
They are coming off a three-game winning streak that saw the most recent victory Tuesday night over the Saskatoon Blades.
Vancouver Giants head coach Michael Dyck was pretty pleased with his team鈥檚 most recent game 鈥 the latter two periods, anyway.
鈥淚n the first period, we were individuals and we were slow,鈥 Dyck said. 鈥淚n the second and third, we played fast and as a team.鈥
The Giants have had a few games recently in which they have had trouble getting up to speed, but played well once they did.
鈥淲e are playing faster,鈥 Dyck said. 鈥淲e haven鈥檛 changed anything. We have just changed our mindset. We are still running the same power play. We still have the same guys on the power play. They are just working together.鈥
Keeping it simple is one of the keys for the Giants right now, Dyck said.
鈥淭hey are playing faster and letting the puck do the work for them. We are doing a good job of getting the puck to the net, and we are finding sticks and finding screens.鈥
Starting the year, Dyck said he wanted to see the Giants work on their defense, and that鈥檚 paid off with a change from a solid-but-sometimes-streaky team last season to one that has a strong 17-6-2-0 record.
They鈥檝e also produced some players who are getting more attention in the league.
Davis Koch, who scored in the win over Saskatoon, was named the WHL player of the week this week, having scored his ninth multi-point game in this season.
鈥淗e鈥檚 consistently doing the little things really well,鈥 said Dyck. 鈥淗e does a really good job on both sides of the puck.鈥
Despite the string of recent wins, there was to be no resting on their laurels for the Vancouver Giants 鈥 by 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning they were on the bus and headed for a road game against the Kelowna Rockets.
They won again, for their fourth victory in a row.
After playing four games in eight days, the Giants schedule will settle down a little bit in the near future, with a series of weekend games and fewer mid-week trips out of town.
In early December, on Dec. 1 and 8, the Giants will leave 91原创 and play a pair of home games in their old stomping grounds at the Pacific Coliseum.
The game on Dec. 8 will be the annual Teddy Bear Toss to collect toys for underprivileged children.
