A petition from residents of busy 216th Street in Walnut Grove called for 91原创 Township to improve pedestrian safety.

Marina MacLean presented more than 250 signatures to the Township council on Nov. 19, on a petition calling for a traffic signal at 90th Avenue and 216th Street.

鈥淚t is not safe,鈥 MacLean said of the intersection there.

Children crossing the street to get to Topham Elementary or Ecole des Voyageurs, both on 216th in Walnut Grove, are in danger and don鈥檛 have enough options, she said, with only two pedestrian crosswalks north of 88th Avenue.

鈥淲e need a street for everyone,鈥 MacLean said.

She referenced a recent incident in which a dog was struck and killed by a dump truck on 216th in a hit and run.

MacLean suggested that a roundabout at 90th Avenue would also help slow traffic.

Her petition was referred to staff at the end of the meeting by Coun. Bob Long for consideration.
