Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement catch illegal ride-hail operator, leading to three convictions against the driver.

An illegal ride-hail operator faces several convictions after a joint Richmond RCMP and traffic safety authority operation.

Richmond RCMP and the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement pulled over the driver in 2023 as part of a joint crackdown on illegal ride-hailing operators. The driver faced similar charges in 2020.

The latest convictions include: operating without licence, wrong class driver's licence, fail to display certificate.

"Illegal ride-hail operators do not the meet critical safety requirements, including criminal record checks, licensing, and insurance," Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit Sgt. Eric Baskette said.

Together, RCMP and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement have issued more than $79,000 worth of fines to 35 illegal ride-hail operators in eight joint crackdowns.
