January is going to be a month of road delays and detours around 91Ô´´ Township as multiple projects affect major routes in Willoughby, Walnut Grove, and in rural areas.
The most significant impact will be on 208th Street, where road widening will mean that a stretch of road from 72nd Avenue to 76th Avenue will allow only single-lane alternating traffic starting on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and running to Feb. 5. The single-lane partial closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
The roadwork could be rescheduled or extended if weather puts a stop to or delays the work during January and early February.
There are also several other possible road disruptions in Willoughby beginning in January, including:
• FortisBC is doing utility work on 80th Avenue between 197th Street and 198A Street from Jan. 10 to 19. There will be single-lane alternating traffic 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Maintenance work on 86th Avenue between 202nd Street and 202B Street will mean single-lane alternating traffic there between Jan. 9 to 26.
• On 201st Street between 85th and 88th Avenues, a large construction crane is being removed between Jan. 15 to 21. That may cause delays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., impacting traffic in Willoughby and Walnut Grove.
• Utility work will mean single-lane alternating traffic on 216th Street between 76B and 78th Avenues, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Jan. 19 to 26.
There are also other traffic impacts expected around the community, including:
• FortisBC utility work on 72nd Avenue between 232nd Street and 240th Street will mean single-lane alternating traffic, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Jan. 8 to 12.
• Glover Road could see single-lane alternating traffic near Fort 91Ô´´ between Telegraph Trail and Rawlison Crescent, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 8 to 12.
Part of 208th Street was open to south-bound only traffic for several weeks last fall as widening work began between the Willoughby Connector and 72nd Avenue.
Two-lane traffic re-opened in November.
