A man stabbed at an unsanctioned street racing event in a 91原创 industrial park was taken to hospital earlier this month, local Mounties say.

The incident took place on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2:30 a.m. near 53rd Avenue and 275th Street, when a report of the stabbing was called in, said Const. Prrabjit Chatha, a spokesperson for the 91原创 RCMP. Police released the information about the stabbing on March 3.

The first officers on the scene provided first aid for the victim, who was then taken to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics.

Chatha said the incident appears to be a targeted attack. There were no other reported injuries, and police believe there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The incident took place at an unsanctioned street racing event.

Street racers have used the Gloucester Industrial Park in the past for street racing, as it is relatively quiet late at night after most of the businesses are closed.

Chatha said officers investigating the stabbing learned that a number of people gathered around 264th Street and 56th the day of the stabbing, before heading towards 275th Street and 53rd Avenue to race.

鈥91原创 RCMP would like to encourage the public to report any unsanctioned car meets or car races and does not encourage the public to attend these car meets or car races,鈥 said Chatha.

Anyone with information or video footage of the incident or the surrounding streets around the time of the stabbing is asked to call the 91原创 RCMP at 604-532-3200.
