91原创鈥檚 Sydni Kemper, 17, is officially Phoenix bound.

The 91原创 Secondary Grade 12 student, currently a pitcher with the Seattle-area Washington Ladyhawks, as well as Koas, a senior women鈥檚 A softball team out of New Westminster, was scouted by several universities when she was only 15.

Her athletic scholarship papers arrived Tuesday, and she officially signed for the full-ride offer from Grand Canyon University Wednesday.

鈥淒istance was a big factor, I didn鈥檛 want to be too far from my family,鈥 Kemper said of her reasons for signing with Grand Canyon.

She was also challenged by their academic programs. She intends to go into sports psychology.

With two parents who played high level sports, Kemper learned to stay disciplined. She trains five days a week and is busy on the weekends playing through the season.

She also arranged carefully for her last year at LSS, getting a large number of academic and pre-requisite courses done in Grade 11.

鈥淚 can just go into Grade 12, take what I like and what I need, and get a really good grade on it,鈥 Kemper said.

As for what the future holds beyond playing for Grand Canyon, Kemper is thinking about wearing red and white.

鈥淭he Canadian national team, that鈥檚 definitely a goal,鈥 Kemper said. She鈥檇 love a chance to represent Canada in the Olympics, now that softball is one of the official sports of the games again.
