Youth rugby teams girls U18 and boys U20 won gold and silver medals, respectively, in Canada Summer Games Rugby 7s held Aug. 11 to 13 in St. John's, Nfld.
The U18 team went undefeated in the tournament, claiming their second successive win.
The team has two athletes with ties to 91Ô´´ – Ayana Titifanua who played for 91Ô´´â€™s Rugby Club, and Aldergrove’s Tayla Kempf, a D.W. Poppy Secondary School student.
In the pool, the girls won against Newfoundland & Labrador (41-0), Alberta (31-7), New Brunswick (24-7), and Nova Scotia (29-10).
They blanked Prince Edward Island 40-0 in the quarter-final, and even though Nova Scotia put up a challenge, Team BC won 29-12 in the semi-final.
Ontario team was taking lead at 10-0 in the beginning of the gold medal match. Although, Kempf led a comeback for her BC Bears in the second half beating Ontario 22-10.
Team BC boys U20 also won silver during the tournament.
