A man has been arrested and one person is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a stabbing at a business in Abbotsford.

The incident happened around 9:42 a.m. on Saturday (Aug. 9) at a business near the intersection of Townline Road and Maclure Road.

When the Abbotsford Police Department arrived on scene they found the victim – the business owner – had sustained life-threatening injuries following an altercation with an unknown person who was attempting to steal from the premises.

The suspect fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival. The victim was transported to a Vancouver area trauma hospital.

"Officers quickly established containment in the area and, within minutes, tracked the suspect to the backyard of a nearby residence," police said.

Seven minutes later, at 9:49 a.m., officers arrested a 40-year-old man who was currently out on statutory release from a previous violent offence. He remains in police custody.

Investigators are now looking for anyone who was in the area between 9:15 a.m. and 10 a.m. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225. The file number is 2025-34062.
