Those looking forward to the reopening of the W.C. Blair pool this month will have to wait a bit longer to enjoy a swim.
Renovations to the pool deck and change rooms have been delayed, pushing back the opening from January to mid March.
According to a memo to council, 鈥渟ignificant issues were encountered鈥 when demolition crews took down the walls and concrete slabs in the facility, which was built more than 30 years ago.
鈥淭hicker than anticipated concrete slabs, failing and deteriorating pool and sanitary piping, and failing pool features affected the demolition schedule, where additional work needed to be added to the original scope of work,鈥 the memo states.
鈥淭hese changes were needed to ensure the upgrades are in compliance with all the applicable regulations and provide a safe facility for public use.鈥
The pool has been closed to the public since Sept. 12 of last year.
