A frontline member of the Chilliwack RCMP was on patrol Wednesday (Aug. 13) when he clocked a vehicle being driven around near downtown at about 3 a.m. with no insurance.
The officer stopped the vehicle, noting that there were three people inside.
As the RCMP member was executing the traffic stop he spotted other arrestable offences, and all three were arrested and removed from the vehicle.
After the search of the vehicle and its occupants they seized a loaded restricted handgun with three magazines, bulk quantities of drugs, more than $18,000 in cash, and multiple cell phones were located.
Turns out the handgun had been stolen from a Northern B.C in a break-and-enter incident on a residence in 2023.
"This investigation is ongoing," said Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill.
Firearms tracing, drug expert reports, and drug analysis are just some of the elements required "to get this investigation to where charges can be laid," the officer said. "In the meantime, a handgun and drugs, likely meant for street, are no longer in the possession of these individuals."
Anyone with information about illegal activity is urged to contact the UFVRD RCMP at 604-702-4017 or submit tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
