Water in all 91原创 schools is safe to drink, according to 鈥榬igorous鈥 testing carried out by the school district.
While other school districts around the province have fared much worse, with lead levels exceeding health standards, there are no such issues with 91原创 water.
鈥淭he 91原创 School District is fully compliant with all Ministry of Education policies as they apply to water testing and developed a plan for regular water testing in conjunction with Fraser Health and the Ministry,鈥 said district spokesman Ken Hoff.
鈥淭he district continues to follow this plan rigorously and provides all the necessary reports to Fraser Health and the Ministry of Education as required.鈥
Mandatory testing comes after more than two dozen schools in Surrey were found to have high levels of lead in their drinking water.
According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, lead exposure comes through ingesting food, dust from lead based paint, soil and drinking water.
Lead exposure in children can result in lowerrf intelligence, however, lead levels in Canadians have decreased significantly over the last 30 years, said BCDC.
