Two all-candidates meetings with a difference will be held at the 91原创 Seniors Resource Centre, 20605 51B Ave.
The meeting for for 91原创 Township candidates takes place on Monday, Nov. 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. 91原创 City candidates will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Both meetings will focus on seniors鈥 issues.
Unlike most meetings, neither will involve a formal debate or questions and answers in front of the audience. Rather, each candidate who attends will be asked to introduce themselves and present a few details about their platform.
Then they will be able to engage with seniors who are seated at tables.
鈥淒epending on the number of candidates participating and the number of seniors in attendance, our plan is for one or two candidates at a time to meet with seniors at each table to answer pre-prepared or spontaneous questions before moving to the next table to engage with a different group of seniors,鈥 says organizer Marilyn Fischer.
About 60 per cent of the members of 91原创 Seniors Resource Centre reside in the Township, and it was felt that separate meetings for each jurisdiction would be valuable for seniors.
Triple A Senior Housing, which recently held a successful forum on seniors鈥 housing issues, is sponsoring the two meetings, along with co-sponsors 91原创 Senior Resources Society, Brookswood Senior Citizens, CARP - Chapter 48, 91原创 Seniors Community Action Table, Stepping Stone Community Services and Meals on Wheels.
The organizers are also inviting all candidates to provide a written response of 300 words or less listing their selection of two or three specific items which they consider warrant priority attention in the Township (or City) and to suggest a course of action. The specific items should be chosen from the World Health Organization checklist of the eight essential features of Age-Friendly Community, which can be found at http://www.who.int/ageing/publications/Age_friendly_cities_checklist.pdf.
The responses will be put together as a handout to seniors attending the all-candidates meetings, thus providing an opportunity for candidates who may not be able to participate to relay their views to seniors. To allow time for collating and printing, submissions must be received on or before Oct. 28 at tripleaseniorhousing@gmail.com.
