UPDATE:
Both eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were open to traffic as of 8:32 a.m., according to DriveBC.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A crash on Highway 1 in Chilliwack shut down a portion of the highway and slowed traffic on Thursday morning (Aug. 14).
DriveBC said in a social media post that a vehicle incident on Highway 1 had both eastbound lanes blocked at Prest Road in Chilliwack.
Traffic was being diverted off at the exit, and DriveBC said drivers can expect major delays due to congestion.
It was reported that the driver of a semi truck hit the cable barriers in the centre median and they were across the eastbound highway lanes along with oil. It is believed the incident happened sometime around 6:30 a.m.
Another crash happened later in the westbound lanes. The second crash was west of Lickman Road. At least one person was taken to hospital.
