HandyDart riders in Metro Vancouver might soon have a better experience, according to TransLink.
On Tuesday, the agency suggested Ontario-based First Canada as a replacement for U.S.-based MVT Canadian Bus, following a six-month procurement process.
First Canada already runs HandyDart service for BC Transit in Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops and Vernon.
The company also operates community shuttle service for TransLink in 91原创 and on Bowen Island.
TransLink said that the new provider will allow it to 鈥渉ave greater oversight and accountability of the operation, and be in a better position to provide improved service standards for its customers.鈥�
TransLink has faced criticism in the past for the way HandyDart is run.
HandyDart Riders鈥� Alliance member Elizabeth McKeller spoke to what she saw as the faults of MVT Canadian Bus at a TransLink meeting this summer.
鈥淭here鈥檚 no accountability with the contractor,鈥� Elizabeth McKeller told the board, insisting dispatching problems have happened multiple times in recent months.

If approved, First Canada will launch a website the next day to assist riders with the transition.
