We have a semi-regular summer tradition among some of us at the office. We call it Blizzard Friday, and as the name implies, we splurge once or twice a month at least and pig out on DQ Blizzards or other ice cream treats.
This week, however, we might need to rethink Blizzard Friday.
We might have to rename it Blizzard Thursday.
Given my propensity to tell you about all different 芒鈧 and sometime unique 芒鈧 efforts by local companies to raise money for charity, especially our restaurants, I芒鈧劉d be remiss if I didn芒鈧劉t share this little nugget of news.
Last week, I told you of White Spot芒鈧劉s Pirate Pak Day, and efforts of the local team to send sick kids to camp.
Well, this week, I need to tell you about a fundraiser that is even more fundamental than that. It芒鈧劉s to help ensure some of those same sick kids get the health care services and support they need.
It芒鈧劉s the 12th annual Miracle Treat Day, and full proceeds from every Blizzard sold today will help support one of 14 children芒鈧劉s hospitals across the country 芒鈧 in the Lower Mainland, of course, that means the B.C. Children芒鈧劉s Hospital.
So, even if weather is not expected to be ideal 芒鈧 namely scorching hot to help justify such shenanigans 芒鈧 we芒鈧劉re going to have to move our DQ treat day to today (Thursday).
Hope you join us. After all, most of us know a child who芒鈧劉s had to use the services at BCCH (www.bcchf.ca), and we know how critical their services are.
Bring a blanket and watch ET
I know my colleagues in the 91原创 Advance newsroom have been keeping you abreast of the movie nights happening in and around the community this summer.
In fact, coworker Heather Colpitts was reportedly hunkered down in a lawn chair at last Friday芒鈧劉s showing of The Lego Movie at Willoughby Community Park. But it芒鈧劉s all rumour. I don芒鈧劉t have proof.
My reason for telling you about an upcoming movie night, however, is a bit different.
I, again, want to commend the folks from the Aldergrove Credit Union who are doing something special for the community.
In partnership with the Aldergrove Business Association, they芒鈧劉re hosting a community appreciation event Saturday, and as part of this outreach effort there芒鈧劉s going to be another movie in the park.
While 91原创 still enjoys one of the few drive-in movie theatres in the province 芒鈧 and if you haven芒鈧劉t ever checked that out, you should 芒鈧 there芒鈧劉s still something even more 芒鈧搈agical almost芒鈧 about movie nights in the park. Besides the fact that they芒鈧劉re free, these events are much more inviting and do wonderfully in bringing the community together in a casual, festival-like atmosphere.
Want to check it out? It芒鈧劉s on Saturday, Aug. 16, 7 p.m. at Aldergrove Athletic Park, 26770 29th Ave. They芒鈧劉ll show ET at dusk. And before that, my favourite country sister act Robyn and Ryleigh are on stage, plus facepainting, balloons, games, exotic animals, and more.
The credit union芒鈧劉s corporate entity, Aldergrove Financial Group, has a history of supporting our communities.
It extends in many ways and touches numerous areas in the communities where the staff and members live and work, explained CEO Gus K. Hartl.
Last year alone, the credit union invested more than $125,000 into the community through charitable and community outreach efforts like this.
芒鈧揥e hope to see our members and everyone in the community at this event,芒鈧 Hartl said.
芒鈧揥e want to show our appreciation and are thrilled to be part of such a great evening.芒鈧
