ALR sacrificed for development

Dear Editor,

Am I the only one who sees the new 216th interchange as a door opener to ALR, (Agricultural Land Reserve) destruction, from 216th all the way east to Glover Road?

Isn鈥檛 that the eventual plan of all levels of government 鈥 to shill our ALR to the developer corporations in exchange for financial favours, and therefore, easier work for all of them?

The more corporate taxes, the easier governing becomes.

You don鈥檛 have to work so hard to be fiscally responsible when your coffers are overflowing with tax revenue.

As well, electioneering becomes that much easier with the ensuing 鈥渄onations鈥 made by the grateful corporations.

These politicians won鈥檛 be around when the population begins to starve for locally produced food or goes to the poor house trying to pay for basic food from foreign producers.

We鈥檙e being led down the garden path folks.

There鈥檚 no real advantage to this ill conceived project neither now or in the future when the whole slope east of 216th is an industrial wasteland like Annacis Island or Port Kells or 鈥

The new bridge to replace the tunnel is only for corporate profit as well. Wait til you see what happens to the ALR south of the Fraser when that mega expensive project is done.

Listen to people such as Harold Steeves, Bill Vander Zalm, the mayor and council of Richmond and a host of other responsible people who are adamantly opposed to it.

Am I the only one who sees this?

Jeff Laurie, Walnut Grove
