Here come the garage police

Editor: I see where a new townhome project in Yorkson will be approved by 91原创 Township, with 50 per cent more parking stalls than required under the current regulations. Strange as this may seem, about 15 years ago the planners across the GVRD reduced the number of stalls required in both commercial and residential projects by about this same margin of 50 per cent.

This was done on the premise if we did not provide the parking stalls, people would use other types of transportation, such as transit, bikes or walking. I guess that experiment did not work.

I am writing though about the new restriction, as to the legally binding promise not to store anything other than a car or truck. My goodness, where will it end?

We have the suite police and the tree police, and now we will have the garage police. I think we are losing sight of the original goal, which is to provide affordable shelter for the masses.
