You are missing the point.
I agree that we never complained in the past about holidays not coinciding, such as Victoria Day vs. Memorial Day in the U.S., and Canada Day vs. the 4th of July in the U.S. Those statutory holidays started many, many decades ago, when most mothers were stay at home moms.
If the company that Dad works at loses a day with its branches back east, suffers much lost revenue to cross- border sales, plus must pay all its employees, it makes sense for the company to switch the day to coincide with the same holiday as is marked in the U.S. and most of the rest of Canada.
So on the 鈥渄esignated鈥 Family Day on B.C., maybe Mom spends it with the kids. But Dad must take an alternate day and stay home alone.
Many families are split up on Family Day. Some have both Mom and Dad working and a sitter is required to spend Family Day with the kids.
