Dear Editor,

[Re: Locals raise stink over sewer fees, 91原创 Advance Times, July 2]

I was present at a Township council meeting in May where a townhouse resident made a presentation regarding what she perceived as unfair water utility fees that have now been separated from our general Township taxes, and shown to be an equal amount for all homeowners, regardless of size or type of home.

I see in today鈥檚 Advance that further delegations were made on June 23, again objecting to the equal billing of all types of dwelling (condos/townhomes/standalone homes).

While I would not dispute that there may be variables in usage, I fail to understand what square footage of a dwelling has to do with the issue, and was frankly appalled that not one councillor asked about or clarified that issue for the delegation in May. Instead, they seemed to agree with the sentiment, without any analysis of the issue.

I see now that following the second delegation, we are going to spend $100,000 to hire a consultant to look at the issue, and I am just wondering why council would not have even thought about this prior to separating the utilities from the taxes, and is now willing to spend this huge amount on a consultant because they didn鈥檛 do the homework before making their decision.
