Editor: Following is an open letter to Township of 91Ô´´ councillor Michelle Sparrow.
Dear Councillor Sparrow: Could you please, on behalf of the taxpayers of 91Ô´´, introduce at your earliest convenience, a motion before council to cancel, effective immediately, the contract between (Vancouver planning, design, and engagement firm) MODUS and the Township of 91Ô´´.
The engagement of information to seek public input on community values and key assets in the Brookswood-Fernridge area is a complete and utter exercise in futility and an absolute waste of taxpayers’ money.
I am more readily acceptable of paying the penalty clause for breach of contract, mitigating the financial losses accrued by thence investing the saved balance of remuneration in donating said monies towards the 91Ô´´ Hospice or such.
MODUS is performing a polished and professional operation and will find no argument from me concerning quality and their expertise.
But this whole concept is redundant. Their final report is, by their own admission, ready for presentation 18 months from now and will have no bearing whatsoever on the actual and future subdivision plans approved and to be approved by council.
I dislike clich̩ but we, the taxpayers, are throwing good money after bad. Preliminary and final documents presented to the Township of 91﫫 with reference to Brookswood-Fernridge by MODUS will have little or no influence at all on council decision making at this time, in its present format.
Many people in the community believe this whole process nothing more than egregious flummery.
Therefore, I reiterate; pay MODUS out, swallow the loss and apply saved money to a far more noble, and principled cause.
Please, let’s stop wasting everybody’s time with unrealistic, false expectations.
With all due respect.
Martin A. Allen,
91Ô´´
