Letters: 216 Street is wrong route for overpass

Editor: I am writing to record my opposition to the new 216 Street freeway overpass to be built in my quiet neighbourhood.

I concur with others who have stated that 216 Street should not be used, as it now a residential area with parks and schools.

Any new freeway overpass should be constructed at the more rural route of Glover Road overpass — since that one needs to be elevated higher as it has been struck by high trucks several times.

Recently it was quoted in the newspaper that the 200 Street freeway overpass is at capacity and cannot handle any more traffic.

You can bet they will come through our nice quiet Forest Hills neighborhood, especially at night.

Besides that, six lanes of traffic are very noisy and fencing will not help very much.

However, if this project does go ahead, as a resident of Forest Hills Walnut Grove I ask the mayor and council to please close the entrance into the Forest Grove subdivision at 216 Street and Telegraph Trail.

If you do not, large trucks and cars will use it to bypass line-ups, or slow traffic, or just take the short cut to beat traffic.

Right now, there is a fair amount of traffic that cuts through from 88 Avenue onto 212 Street toward 208 Street.

If you do not close off this street into our now nice quiet neighbourhood, it will become a racing car/truck short cut for the new 216 Street freeway entrance and exit.

Please save our quiet Forest Grove neighbourhood from truck traffic invasion.

Ras Gosse,
