Adults time to shine as Canada Day Sports Fest kicks off

Willoughby Community Park and 91原创 Events Centre set to host 91原创 Canada Day Sports Fest on June 28 and 29

Typically, it is parents cheering their children on in their respective sports, but the tables will be turned this weekend.

That鈥檚 because Tourism 91原创 is presenting 91原创 Canada Day Sport Fest on June 28 and June 29. The event precedes the 91原创 Canada Day celebrations on June 30 and July 1.

The two-day sports festival will feature master鈥檚 lacrosse, bocce and a co-ed seven-on-seven soccer tournament and will be held at the 91原创 Events Centre and Willoughby Community Park.

The lacrosse will be indoors in the LEC fieldhouse and the arena bowl, the soccer will be on the artificial turf fields at the Park and the bocce will be contested on the newly-opened bocce courts.

The courts are located just west of the sand volleyball courts.

A few hundred participants, as well as their families, are expected to attend.

鈥淭here are so many sport tourism events held in 91原创 each year geared to children and youth,鈥 said Deborah Kulchiski, the executive director of Tourism 91原创.

鈥淲e really wanted to focus on the recreational adult athletes,鈥 said Tourism 91原创鈥檚 Mun Bagri.

鈥淲e figured this was a perfect opportunity.鈥

The action won鈥檛 be limited to the field, or just the adults, either, as there will be a bouncy castle, mini golf, and the water park.

There will also be food vendors on hand, as well as a licensed beverage area.

The plan is for the event to continue to grow.

鈥淭he key is to set ourselves up for next year, create a baseline for us to see what we need in terms of preparation (moving forward),鈥 Bagri said.

The action kicks off both days at 10 a.m.
