The Brookswood Bobcats may have won just one of five games, but the team was agonizingly close to a much better showing.

The team was competing at the junior boys basketball provincial invitational tournament, which they co-hosted alongside the Mountain Eagles, Feb. 24 to 27 at the 91Ô´´ Events Centre.

Seeded 29th going in, the ’Cats went 1-4, but two of those losses were by one basket apiece.

Brookswood lost 66-49 to the Handsworth Royals and 58-56 to the Dawson Creek Coyotes on the opening day.

They did bounce back with a 73-64 win over the Claremont Spartans on Sunday before losing 77-40 to the MacNeill Ravens. Brookswood’s final game was a 48-46 setback to the Tamanawis Wildcats.

And much like their 91Ô´´ counterparts, Mountain was also 1-4, with their lone victory also over Claremont.

The Eagles, seeded 32nd, lost 71-40 to Vancouver College, 76-41 to Mount Baker, 42-29 to MacNeill, before breaking through with the 52-46 win over Claremont. Mountain closed the tournament with a 41-39 loss to Oak Bay.
