North 91Ô­´´ girls softball team wins U10 provincial crown for first time

The North 91Ô­´´ Devils captured the U10 gold medal at Burnaby's Squint Lake Park during the provincial championships June 28 to June 30.

The North 91Ô­´´ Devils capped off a dominating season in historic fashion, winning the U10 provincial softball championship for the first time in the 21-year history of the year-end U10 tournament.

The Devils gave up just a combined five runs in the seven games in winning the gold medal at the tournament, which was held June 28 to June 30 at Squint Lake Park in Burnaby.

North 91Ô­´´ finished the season with a record of 41-5, medalling in four tournaments and winning gold three in of them.

At provincials, the Devils beat the Ridge Meadows Pride 04 7-0 in the final, with pitcher Maya Moreno throwing six innings of no-hit ball.

North 91Ô­´´ had gone 4-0 in the round robin — they beat Ridge Meadows Pride 05, Langford Lightning, South Surrey White Rock Thunder and the South Delta Angels — before beating the Thunder 13-0 in the quarter-finals and North Surrey 11-1 in the semifinals.

The team is made up of Coaches-Trevor Moreno, Ellen Boundy and Steve Crone
