A celebration of active living will give 91原创 residents a chance to try a new sport, learn about local recreation organizations, and meet inspiring athletes who participated in this summer鈥檚 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.
Sports Day in Canada will be held Saturday, September 29 to celebrate sport鈥檚 power to build community, fortify national spirit, and facilitate healthy, active living. In honour of the special day, a Try It! event will be held from 1 鈥 4pm at Willoughby Community Park, 7700 block 202A Street.
A variety of local sport and recreation organizations have been invited by the Township of 91原创, City of 91原创, and Pacific Sport Fraser Valley to set up stations, offer information, demonstrate what they do, and get others involved. During the free Try It! event, people of all ages can try everything from gymnastics, lacrosse, tennis, and Tae Kwon Do, to soccer, karate, ball hockey, and speed skating.
Prizes and giveaways will be handed out and participants will also have a chance to meet remarkable local athletes who have taken their love of sport to the world stage.
Weightlifter Christine Girard, the first Canadian to earn a medal when she won bronze at the 2012 London Olympic Games, and track and field runner Braedon Dolfo, a 91原创 Mustangs member who shone in the 2012 Paralympic Games, will be on hand for the Try It! event. Joining them will be Canadian National Champion and 91原创 Rifle and Pistol Club member Dorothy Ludwig, who participated in her first Olympics this summer.
