A handful of local track and field athletes are among the competitors named to Team BC for the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials.

The competition, which will decide who will represent Canada at the London Summer Olympics, takes place June 27-30 in Calgary.

Jarid Vaughan will be racing in the 100m men鈥檚 event.

The sprinter, who trains with the Coquitlam Cheetahs, is an R.E. Mountain graduate who attended the University of Texas at Arlington.

Tiffany Perkins, a women鈥檚 javelin thrower from Abbotsford, trains with the 91原创 Mustangs.

And two members of the Trinity Western Spartans track and field team are also among the competitors.

Liza Whitehead will run in the women鈥檚 100m event and Fiona Benson will run in the women鈥檚 1500m.

Trinity Western鈥檚 Katelynn Ramage will represent Team BC at the Canadian junior race walk championships, which will also be held in Calgary during the Olympic trials.
