91Ô­´´ Thunder get back on winning track

The 91Ô­´´ Thunder had their biggest offensive output of the season as they won for the sixth time in the past seven games.

The senior A lacrosse team pumped in 16 goals in a 16-11 victory over the visiting Maple Ridge Burrards on June 20 at the 91Ô­´´ Events Centre.

The win puts 91Ô­´´ (6-3-0)  at the top of the Western Lacrosse Association standings with 12 points while Maple Ridge (1-8-1) remains at the bottom of the seven-team league with three points.

The game was filled with offence requiring both teams made second period goaltending changes.

The 91Ô­´´ power play was a big factor in the game, scoring four goals on eight opportunities.

The Thunder were led by the Lewis Ratcliff, Athan Iannucci — who each had two goals and four assists — and Shayne Jackson (three goals, two assists), Brett Hickey (two goals, three assists) and Alex Turner (one goal, four assists) all had five-point games.

Joel McCready and Ryan McMichael potted a pair of goals, while Brett Mydske and Matt Leveque scored once each.

Steve Fryer picked up the win, saving 18 of the 23 shots he faced. He replaced Brodie MacDonald, who surrendered six goals on 21 shots.

The Thunder are in Coquitlam (4-4-0) on June 23 to face the Adanacs before returning to the LEC on June 27 for a date with the New Westminster Salmonbellies (4-4-0).
