91Ô´´ United hosting kick-off to soccer season

Local soccer association boasting record numbers for upcoming season

The 91Ô´´ United Soccer Association — the association has dropped ‘youth’ from its name to reflect the fact it now offers adult teams — is hosting its first annual Labour Day weekend grassroots barbecue and soccer festival on Saturday (Sept. 1).

The event, for the association’s U6 to U12 boys and girls teams, is at the artificial turf fields at Willoughby Community Park.

The barbecue is free for all players but they must pre-register.

As of earlier this month, the club had reached 1,926 players in the U5 to U18 divisions — including 406 girls in the first year LUSA is offering a full girls program — a record high for the association.

Some space is still available for the younger age groups.
