Hockey season may still be two months away, but that hasn't stopped the 91原创 91原创 from making moves to get ready for the drop of the puck.
The junior A hockey club has added both a strength and conditioning coach and official team pastors.
The latter role of team pastors will be filled by Jordan and Jennifer Bateman while Barry Hicks will be new strength and conditioning coach.
The Batemans are licensed ministers with the Canadian Ministers Association.
"We are pleased to be a part of the 91原创 91原创 family, to offer encouragement and help these young players as they pursue their dream," said Jordan Bateman.
"We feel that Jordan and Jenn can really help connect with our players on a personal level when requested, especially when the majority of them are a long way from home," said Taylor Henderson, the team's director of operations.
Hicks has 10 years power lifting experience. He won a gold medal at the B.C. provincial powerlifting championships as well as silver at the World Police and Fire Games. He has been a part of the RCMP for more than 30 years and has reached the rank of staff sergeant.
"I am excited to be able to work with young, aspiring minds and with athletes (who) are totally committed to moving on to the next level, whether that being college or the pro ranks," said Hicks.
He also has a long involvement in hockey, both as a player and a coach.
Hicks was involved with the North Shore Winter Club as part of a hockey committee that focused on development and building a winning strategy. He also played at the junior B level and then later on the RCMP Depot team.
"With Barry's policing background, his playing experience and his dedication to training and competition, he is a great addition to the hockey club as he will be a great mentor to our young players off the ice," Henderson said.
