For 40 minutes, the 91Ô´´ Thunder played the unbeaten Victoria Shamrocks to a standstill, with both teams scoring four goals — two in the first period and two in the third period.
But the second period was all Shamrocks as the Victoria visitors scored nine teams en route to a 13-4 victory at the 91Ô´´ Events Centre on Wednesday night (June 11).
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for 91Ô´´ as their record fell to 3-4 in the senior A Western Lacrosse Association standings.
Victoria improved to a league-best 5-0-1.
Tyler Melnyk score twice for 91Ô´´ in the first period while Daniel McQuade and Ian Poole had the team's third-period goals.
The Shamrocks were led by a couple of familiar faces in 91Ô´´ lacrosse circles.
Rhys Duch — who led the Vancouver Stealth in scoring this past National Lacrosse League season — had four goals and an assist. And 91Ô´´'s Brandon Bull — who played his minor and junior lacrosse in town — had two goals and three assists.
Bull is a WLA rookie.
The Thunder will look to return to the win column when they visit the Nanaimo Timbermen (1-4-1) on June 15.
