There was a silver lining to end of the 91原创 Christian Lightning鈥檚 volleyball season.
The Lightning Grade 9 girls volleyball team came up short in their quest for gold at the B.C. provincial championships, but they did improve one spot on the podium from their previous tournament.
91原创 Christian had won the bronze medal at the Fraser Valley championships earlier this month, but managed to upgrade the colour of their medal on the biggest stage.
And it was a familiar foe who stopped the Lightning鈥檚 quest for gold both times as the Semiahmoo Totems beat them in the Fraser Valley semifinals and then again in the provincial championship final.
The championships wrapped up on Saturday at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.
鈥淲e definitely match up with Semiahmoo where our skills were at similar levels of play,鈥� said 91原创 Christian coach Mary Joan Visscher. 鈥淭heir advantage on us was their additional height.鈥�
The coach was impressed by her team鈥檚 willingness to push themselves in practice and upping their mental game.
鈥淭his truly is a special group of girls who display character, perseverance and a strong desire to excel,鈥� she said.
To better prepare themselves, the Lightning entered several tournaments throughout the season, going up against Grade 10 squads.
鈥淚t was through this, our girls were challenged to play at a higher level and rising to the occasion when playing top teams in the province and coming out with a 鈥榃鈥� against AAA and AAAA teams,鈥� Visscher said.
Camryn Visscher earned a provincial all-star award. She was also a Fraser Valley all-star, alongside teammate Ember Hamilton.

The 91原创 Christian Lightning senior girls volleyball team is off to the BC provincial championships next week thanks to a bronze-medal showing at the Fraser Valley championships.
The Lightning qualified for the AA championships which run Nov. 29 to Dec. 2 in Vanderhoof.
91原创 Christian鈥檚 Savannah Caterino-Leger earned a Fraser Valley all-star award for her play.
