The Selkirk Saints are unbeaten no more.
The Trinity Western Spartans snapped the Saints 10-game winning streak with a huge 3-2 win in BC Intercollegiate Hockey League action at the 91原创 Events Centre on Nov. 17.
And coupled with another Spartans win the night before 4-3 over the SFU Clan, and TWU is now 8-3-0-0 on the season and four points back of Selkirk for top spot in the league.
鈥淲henever we play with our skill in terms of using our speed and putting pucks on that speed lane, we鈥檙e pretty effective,鈥� said TWU coach Barret Kropf.
鈥淲e just need to work on burying those opportunities 鈥� then we don鈥檛 have to scramble over the last two minutes and block shots and throw faces in front of pucks.
鈥淲e did what we had to do against a team that was on a 10-game winning streak.鈥�
Brayden Brown and Evan Last scored first period goal with the Saints鈥� Dallas Calvin striking in between.
Florian Niedermaier scored short-handed in the middle stanza and that turned out to be the winner as Selkirk鈥檚 Grant Isles struck midway through the third.
TWU鈥檚 Silas Matthys finished with 31 saves in the win.
Against the Clan the night before, TWU was trailing 3-2 after 40 minutes, Jacob Mills pulled them even early in the third before Brown scored his second of the night late in regulation.
Neidermaier had the other TWU goal while Matthys stopped 23 of 26 shots.
The Spartans are back in action on Nov. 25 as they host the Vancouver Island University Mariners at the LEC.
The game will also offer free food TWU students in attendance that night.
The fans will receive a voucher for either poutine or a milk shake and fries or pop and a hot dog.
