One night after a poor second half did them in during a 79-65 loss, the Trinity Western Spartans used a strong second half to post a 93-72 victory.
Both games were against the UNBC Timberwolves at the 91原创 Events Centre on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 with the men's basketball team improving to 3-3. The Timberwolves fell to 2-4.
"Our attention to detail was much better today and the team bought into putting the ball inside," said Spartans coach Scott Allen.
"We had a lot more easy looks and our defensive transition was a lot better today.
"I think this is a more fair representation of who we are and today I thought we were ready to play from the outset.
"We still have a long way to go this year but it was a good step in the right direction."
The score was 36-27 for Trinity Western at the half, but the Spartans scored 30 points in the third quarter alone to take 66-43 lead en route to the 92-73 victory.
Jesse Jeffers led the team with a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds. His previous game high had been eight points.
Kelvin Smith had 16 points, including nine in the fourth quarter while Tyus Allen had 13 points.
In the teams' first game, the Spartans held a slim 38-35 lead at the half but were outscored 44-27 over the final 20 minutes to lose 79-65.
A big difference in the game was the Timberwolves three-point shooting as they hit 13 of their 26 attempts from beyond the arc.
"We have to execute better on defence and become even more disciplined," Allen said.
"If we don't, we're going to get too far behind for any chance of a playoff spot."
Justin Bakuteka was the lone Spartan to reach double figures with a dozen points off the bench.

The Spartans are on the road this weekend against Alberta and Saskatchewan on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22.
