The 91原创 Thunder are one victory away from clinching top spot in the Western Lacrosse Association.
The senior A lacrosse team improved to 10-3-2 and their 22 points give them a four-point cushion on the second-place Victoria Shamrocks. Both teams have three games remaining, including a head-to-head battle on July 20 at the 91原创 Events Centre.
The Thunder defeated the Shamrocks 11-6 on July 12 at Victoria's Bear Mountain Arena, scoring nine of the game's final dozen goals to erase a 3-2 deficit.
Daniel McQuade, Kyle Belton and Shayne Jackson each had two goals and one assist while Athan Iannucci scored once and set up three others.
Dane Dobbie (one goals, two assists) and Damon Edwards (one goal) also hit the scoresheet.
Brodie MacDonald stopped 43 of 49 shots for the win.
And the next night in Nanaimo, 91原创 needed overtime, but prevailed 8-6 over the Timbermen.
Nanaimo scored the only two goals of the third period to force overtime, but in the extra session, 91原创 outscored the hosts 3-1.
Iannucci led the way with three goals and an assist while Mark Matthews had a goal and three helpers.
Adam Jones, Nik Bilic, Mitch McMichael and Jackson had a goal apiece.
Nick Rose stopped 32 of the 38 shots he faced.
The Thunder have won five in a row and have points in seven of their past eight games.
