Facing an opponent missing some key players to injury, the 91原创 Fundamental Titans took full advantage.
The Titans topped the 91原创 Christian Lightning 3-0 on Thursday at the 91原创 Events Centre in the 91原创 District junior boys volleyball championship game.
91原创 Fundamental won 25-13, 25-8 and 25-23 for the straight sets victory.
Titans coach Henderson Tran admitted that the Lightning鈥檚 injury situation played a key role in the outcome but also that his team played very well.
鈥淲e served well and were consistent and able to dig up a lot of balls and win the scramble plays,鈥� he said.
91原创 Christian had won the last two junior boys district titles with the Titans winning the two before that.
鈥淭hey have a lot of friends over there so it is a lot of fun for them to win it every now and then,鈥� Henderson said. 鈥楾hey really enjoy this rivalry.鈥�
The Lightning were the top team during the regular season and beat the Mountain Eagles 3-0 in the semifinals while the Titans were the second seed and needed five sets to beat the Credo Christian Kodiaks in the other semifinal.
Both 91原创 Fundamental and 91原创 Christian advanced to the Fraser Valley championships, which run Nov. 6-9 in Abbotsford. Credo Christian beat Mountain in the third-place game and faced a wild-card game to see if they would join their 91原创 counterparts at the Fraser Valleys.
