In light of the recent violent events in , where a woman died in a white nationalists rally, a Calgary foodie has started a nation wide campaign to celebrate love, humanity and unity in the world.

From Aug. 18 to 20, people across the country are participating in #projectpotluck, a concept created by Julie Van Rosendaal to have 鈥減eaceful pluralist potlucks and picnics, and use those garden torches to illuminate conversation and facilitate real connection.鈥�

91原创 foodie and Township councillor Angie Quaale will be hosting an event at her business, .

She plans on turning the parking lot at 117-20353 64 Ave., into a hub of delicious food and insightful conversation on Sunday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Bring your own chair, plates, cutlery and a dish to share, such as casseroles, sushi, curries, baklava, pie, dumplings or beverages. Quaale鈥檚 hope is to 鈥渂reak bread and share our laughter and love together, to remind us all that there is more that unites us than what does not.鈥�

Quaale was inspired to join the movement after reading Rosendaal鈥檚 post on Aug. 13.

鈥淲ouldn鈥檛 it be great if we could combat all the images of angry torch-bearing racists with images of people carrying casseroles?鈥� Rosendaal wrote. 鈥淎nd curries and baklava and pie 鈥� to a backyard barbecue or picnic? To have peaceful pluralist potlucks and picnics everywhere, and use those garden torches to illuminate conversation and real connection? To gather people in our communities and spread the message that bigotry and hate are unacceptable, that love wins 鈥� and brings pie? Let鈥檚 do some things. I have some ideas.鈥�

There will be tiki torches and additional food provided by Well Seasoned.
